Deck project

In the summer of 2005 I built a deck. This was a bit larger in scope than the shed. and a heck of a lot more work.

Shed project

In the summer of 2002 I built a shed in which to store all our outdoor junk. It was my first building project, a lot of work, but turned out quite rewarding. The final cost (minus tools) was about the same cost as your typical crappy 2x2 Lowes or Home Depot shed.

Winter holiday at home

Normally we open our gifts early, then pack up and drive over to the Braner's house for a day of forced family fun. However, due to Shelby's illness, we spend the holiday alone.

Lets Rack!

The first batch of beer is done fermenting, time to rack (move from one fermenting vessel into another).

DVD backups, keeping it simple

A quick and dirty guide for using MPlayer to "backup" a dvd movie to a lower quality avi.

Guess who's sick!

Shelby of course (well, it does tend to alternate between me and her...) and on Christmas Eve as well.

MythTV

MythTV takes Tivo to another level with the following functionality:

  • Commercial skipping (remember when this was the selling point for Tivo)
  • Plays any type of video from local and network storage
  • Plays any type of music or audio from local and network storage
  • Shows any type of images or pictures from local and network storage
  • Plays DVDs
  • Plays games
  • Local weather forcast
  • RSS news feeds
  • Web browsing
  • Telephone and videophone over internet via SIP
  • Web based interface
And all this for free with no monthly fee, Wow!
I've gotten all these features to work with the exception of gaming and teleconferencing. With all these features it's not a simple program to install, but it sure is a rewarding project.
